DIZYGOTIC PROJECT ALPHA REVIEW

What is DIZYGOTIC?
DIZYGOTIC is a small, independent, high-end sneaker/clothing brand. Their design philosophy is inspired by fraternal twins, the idea of being the same but different. All of DIZYGOTIC’s sneakers are mismatched, from left to right shoe.

Tech Specs (Made For Lifestyle Wear)
Suede upper, with leather and mesh hits. Traditional lace closure. Open-mold Vibram phylon midsole and thin memory foam insole for cushioning. Vibram mega-grip hard rubber outsole.

Build - 9.5/10
The DIZYGOTIC Project Alpha uses top-grain pigskin suedes and nubucks for the toe box and heel. Leather and mesh is found on the midfoot. These materials are very soft and buttery. The cuts are thick and clearly very premium, similar to New Balance’s MADE lines.
As for the craftsmanship, again, DIZYGOTIC hits it out of the park. Unlike big brands (like adidas, Jordan Brand, Nike, and Puma), DIZYGOTIC prides itself on world-class build quality. According to them, “Each pair is handmade in the sample room instead of an assembly line.” I totally believe this; my pair had zero mistakes.
My pair of DIZYGOTIC Project Alpha has some of the best materials and craftsmanship in my entire sneaker collection.

Comfort - 8.5/10
DIZYGOTIC uses an open-mold midsole design from Vibram, meaning Vibram owns the design and DIZYGOTIC buys the design. (This is a common practice for small, independent brands. Designing new midsole/outsole tooling is the most costly part of making sneakers.) Vibram’s phylon midsole offers decent cushioning and good support. DIZYGOTIC’s memory foam insole is ok but, I worry about the long term durability of the foam. When compared to foams like Nike’s ZoomX or New Balance’s FuelCell, this setup is much firmer.
In the past few years, I have come to like firmer midsoles, as well as softer ones. So, I find this Vibram’s phylon setup very comfortable.

Looks - 9/10
As stated before, all of DIZYGOTIC’s sneakers are mismatched. I have the ‘Mizyuro Edition,’ a part of the Momotaro pack. (Mizyuro is a Japanese graffiti artist who collaborated with DIZYGOTIC, creating this colorway. Momotaro is Japanese for ‘Peach Boy,’ an ancient Japanese folk hero, and inspiration for this two sneaker pack.) This Project Alpha is done up in Deep Navy and Lilac Hint. The left shoe has a Lilac Hint toe box and Deep Navy mudguard, both using the premium pigskin suede. With the right shoe being the inverse in the same suede; Deep Navy toe box, Lilac Hint mudguard. Both midfoots use the same sky blue colored leather for the eyestays. The heels are in mismatched colored suede. The left heel is colored Lilac Hint with an embroidered picture of Momotaro in the center. And the right heel is Deep Navy with a picture of an Oni, a Japanese demon, embroidered in the middle. Even the outsoles are mismatched: the left is Lilac Hint, the right is Deep Navy.
I really like how the ‘Mizyuro Edition’ Project Alpha looks. It is mismatched in a way that makes the pair look whole together. The Deep Navy and Lilac Hint work so well together. The shoes look like fraternal twins, the same but different.

Fit And Sizing
The DIZYGOTIC Project Alpha is narrow. DIZYGOTIC themselves recommend wide-footers go up half a size. As a wide-footer myself, I went up the half size and like the fit.

Overall
As I am sure you can tell, I love the DIZYGOTIC Project Alpha ‘Mizyuro Edition.’ I had very high hopes when I ordered my pair and was not at all let down. If you have the money and are willing to try a sneaker brand outside of the norm, I cannot recommend DIZYGOTIC enough.
